The Forest is a first-person open world survival game that takes place on a heavily forested island inhabited by a myriad of flora and fauna. The island is also home to a variety of mutant cannibals that resemble early humans in their tribal structure. They seem to a have varying castes and roles, mourn their dead, construct effigies, and seem almost American-Indian-like. You play the role of a survivor of plane crash on the aforementioned island in search of your child that was taken by a cannibal in the opening sequence. The goal of the game is build a defensible shelter, survive the elements, hunger, thirst, and the nightly cannibal raids; all while trying to find your child in the vast underground caves.

What makes this game like “Minecraft for Adults” is the mature nature of the situations, (dismembering cannibals to build your own effigies, nudity of the female cannibals, and any parents worst nightmare of searching for a kidnapped child), the building system is similar to Minecraft in that you place a transparent blueprint and fill it with gathered materials in the area. The online co-op is where the fun actually begins. In it you and up to 9 others can work together, or compete to see who can survive the longest. While Minecraft is designed for younger gamers, The Forest is very much for more mature players, but like most games today, its plagued by kids who end up being more of a hindrance than a helping hand. The game itself is in public-alpha development by Endnight Games Ltd, and is available on Steam for $14.99.
